The Festool VS 600 Jointing System Dovetail joints are the hallmark of fine woodworking, but every woodworker knows just how time-consuming it is to get dovetails right. It involves careful calculations and a lot of manual chiseling. Even “simple” butted joints with dowels can present challenges. If the edges of the finished piece are going to come out flush, then the dowel on both workpieces must be painstakingly accurate. This work can be done laboriously by hand, expensively on industrial machinery, or quickly and easily using the VS 600. All you need to do is clamp the template in the jig, place the workpiece against the swivel stop, secure the workpiece, fine-adjust with the eccentric memory ring, and rout. It’s unbelievably fast, and unbelievably accurate—joint after perfectly-fitting joint. You can make beautiful, solid, dovetail, box, or dowel joints in a fraction of the time. Visit the Festool USA website to view a short video demonstrating the Festool VS 600 Jointing System and then read the article below from renowned jointing expert, Jerry Work, as he details the capabilities, benefits and accuracy of the VS 600 in a free 47-page PDF product guide. |

On Saturday, April 12th, 2008, Festool USA employees, several Festool dealers, members of the media, local officials, and other guests attended the official grand opening of the new headquarters building in Lebanon, Indiana. The new facility was completed in late summer of 2007 and has become the central location for warehousing and distribution. Among the attendees, we were honored with a visit from Ms. Maier-Stoll, owner of Tooltechnic Systems (Festool),and her daughter, Ms. Barbara Austel. Rather than a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony, we chose to do it the Festool way. Ms. Austel cut the red "ribbon" made of wood with a Festool Kapex sliding compound miter saw, the much anticipated newest addition to Festool's portable power tool offerings which will be available in July 2008. Of course, with no dust to clean up the festivities were immediately back underway. Also among the guests were several of the most prominent members of Festool Germany including Mr. Horst Geiger (Speaker of the Management Board), Mr. Richard Bantel (the architect of the Festool headquarters building), Mr. Michael Bayer (VP of Marketing) and Dr. Christoph Weiss (Member of the Advisory Board). Guests had an opportunity to tour the new building, view a presentation showing the process of Festool product development, view photographs showing the evolution of Festool USA over the years and view Festool's newest products: the MFT/3, MFK 700 and OF 2200, all available May 2008. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Festool community for the support of the Festool brand. |

Special thanks to Jerry Work of the Dovetail Joint, http://jerrywork.com for taking the time to put together a very extensive overview of the Festool VS 600 Jointing System. Read below to learn more about this time-saving system that will help your jointing projects become Faster, Easier, Smarter. Making A "Perfect" Drawer In Less Than Five Minutes Let's start with what constitutes a "perfect" drawer, box or cabinet. Since the side joints on all three are the same, to save my typing and your reading, from this point onward I will use the term "drawer" to mean either a drawer, a box, or a cabinet carcass. A little later on I will also cover what else you need to do besides the dovetailed side joints that differentiate one from another. And, still further on we will talk a bit about using the VS-600 to also make slotted or box joints as well as dovetail joints. A "perfect" drawer is one that is exactly the length, width and depth you want, is absolutely square, sits flat and invokes an image of fine craftsmanship from the minute you assemble it. No sanding to fit, no "make it a bit bigger and cut it to fit afterwards" and no "put a bit of filler into the gaps to make it look like it fits" even when it doesn't. Just perfectly made in the first place. A " perfect" drawer is also one you can make day-in and day-out with beautifully cut half blind dovetail corners in less than 5 minutes. Yes, that is right, five minutes from the time you have the properly prepared stock in front of you to the time you are ready to assemble. Stock preparation and the precise engineering of the VS-600 base unit, template, guide bushing and cutter are the keys to your perfect box in five minutes every time. Interested in learning the techniques that Jerry Work describes? Then, visit Festool USA website to download the free 47-page manual for the VS 600 by Jerry Work. Take your jointing skills to the next level with the Festool VS 600 Jointing System. Thanks, Jerry! Be sure to check out Jerry Work's website, the Dovetail Joint, at http://jerrywork.com.
