What is the attraction of Festool tools to flooring installers?

More and more American flooring installers are discovering the unique advantages of the innovative Festool line. Top hardwood installers like Allen Pyne and Chuck Crispin use the guided plunge saws for in the field cuts. You can do the previously unimaginable with these tools. Like straight-line cuts anywhere on the floor or run a pattern wild and then "cut back" to a desired floor border.

What Festool tools are good for processing solid surfaces?

The plunge saws on their guide rails make clean, factory-quality cuts on Corian and other solid surface products. With the ATF 55 E, it is best to use a 56-tooth negative hook saw blade. A 68-tooth blade is recommended when using the larger AT 65 E. The Rotex RO 150 E sander is a versatile sander for solid surface manipulation, performing aggressive work in its "driven" mode and fine sanding and polishing in its finishing mode. But what people really like about the sander is dust extraction, keeping harmful particulates out of the air and away from the user and the job site.

What's the difference between the ATF 55 and AT 65 plunge-cut saws?

The ATF 55 E has a cutting depth of 2" straight down and the AT 65 has a cutting depth of 2 1/2" straight down. The ATF 55 E comes with a 160mm diameter blade (6 1/4") and the AT 65 E comes with a 190mm (7 1/2") blade. The ATF 55 E blade has an arbor size of 20mm (0.7874") and the AT 65 E blade has an arbor size of 30mm (1.181"). The ATF 55 E has 1200 Watts (10 amp 120V AC) and the AT 65 E has 1400 Watts (11.7 amp 120V AC). The ATF 55 E has a weight of 10.6 lbs and the AT 65 E has a weight of 15 lbs.

What is the difference between the large vs. the small saw in the way of material handling?

The larger AT 65 E excels at large jobs like cutting out window frames, steps for staircases, cutting square timber to size, and cutting PVC and aluminum ducts to length. The smaller ATF 55 E is ideal for cutting sheet goods, panels, false joints, laminated panels, and plasterboard.

What is the benefit of replacing the splinterguard of the guide rail?

As the owner of a Festool circular saw you are one step ahead of those in your field who are still doing things the old fashioned way. You have the advantage of dust extraction and portable accuracy. Keep on the cutting edge by maintaining your Festool guide rail. The replaceable splinterguard is a key element in the chip and splinter-free cuts that you have come to expect from your Festool saw. Replacing a worn splinterguard is economical and gives you a fresh cutting edge.

Why do solid surface guys like the Rotex sander?

The Rotex is popular because it is a dual mode sander that provides versatility. It is aggressive in its gear-driven mode and with the flip of a switch it becomes a random orbital sander for fine sanding. You can also use it as a polisher. But what people really like is its Jetstream dust extraction principle. Under this patented system, the sanding pad has a hole in the center that supplies air to sweep dust outward toward 8 pickup holes at the perimeter of the pad.

What are the various sandpaper types for?

Brilliant is an aluminum-oxid paper for paint, varnishes and sanding in between coats. Rubin is an aluminum-oxid paper for sanding bare wood. Titan is a sterate paper with aluminum-oxid grit for solid surfaces, filler and paints on car repairs. Vlies is for light sanding, rougheneing, degreasing, and matting. Saphir is for heavy-duty use under particularly tough conditions. Platin is for super finish on wood, polymer materials, high-gloss paints, and plastics.

What makes the Festool Trion jigsaw better than cheaper models?

First off, the saw blade does not twist because the jigsaw has a stroke rod made of hardened flat steel that runs in a sintered bronze bed. Secondly, to prevent sway out during tight radius cuts the Trion PS 300 EQ and Trion PSB 300 EQ are equipped with carbide tipped guides that hold the blade firmly as close to the surface of the material as possible. Finally, to prevent splintering, our jigsaws come with a splinter guard (plastic zero clearence insert) that is mounted on to the saw and pressed into the running blade. Because of the pressure of the splinter guard on the workpiece, the edges can't tear out. The jigsaws, like all Festool tools, are dust extractable, too!
